Google Play Games is more than just a platform where you can play games as the name suggests. In fact, it’s much more. With this app powered by Google, you can build your own gamer profile, track your achievements, challenge friends and download more games catered to your preference.
The app originally came as means to build a comprehensive gamer profile for you so that you could use the same profile in game that connected with your Google account – and that means most of the games out there. Initially users start with level 1 but as they play more and more games and increase their experience points (or XP) they become formidable players on the app.
Google Play Games allows you to customize your account by changing you gamer ID but that’s pretty much where the customization options end.
On the app, your gamer profile will show you the amount of XP you’ve earned and the amount you need to reach the next level. It also filters your XP by the game genre you usually play in. This means it will let you know which genre (action, arcade, sports etc.) you have the most experience in.
Your gaming profile also displays your XP history. This is the section where you can view where and when you earned a certain amount of XP. The XP history is organized in a chronological manner so that you can see which game and what in it got you the most amount of XP.
By earning more XP and subsequently leveling up, you get to higher and higher ranks. And you can check out this achievement or compare it with your friends on the leaderboards in the app. This competitive approach will motivate you to level up even more to reach the top.
Apart from the gamer profile, Google has recently added new and updated features on its app. For starters, the first things you will notice when you open the app are four completely free games – Snake, Pac Man, Cricket and Solitaire. Google Play Games reinvents these beloved classic games and makes them more contemporary. These games are great to pass your time when you don’t have other games installed on your phone or when you don’t have an internet connection.
Moving on, in the Arcade section of the app, you’ll be directed to a list of games with live icons. The first section is catered to your preference and shows which games you might want to play next. There are also games you can play to experience their instant gameplay without having to download them first.
The Arcade section also displays the top games in different categories including the top 5 free games and highlights from different genres. Users can also view their gaming library. The library tells you of the games you already have installed on your phone and the games you downloaded once but are not installed in your phone anymore.
Socializing is a big part of Google Play Games although it’s not really outright obvious. Not only can you challenge friends with a Google Play Games accounts but you can also record and share your favorite gaming moments with your friends. Some games have an absolute requirement for Google Play Games and you can’t proceed without installing it. Others may not have the same rules. Google Play Games allows you to play your favorite game on any device at the same place you left it off at. This makes the app quite useful for those who enjoy playing games on multiple smart devices.
Google Play Games is completely free with no in-app purchases but it isn’t available in every country in the world.
Google Play Games is one of the top apps in the Entertainment app category, which belongs to Google LLC.
