Valleys Between is one of the latest iOS games to grace the Apple store and it’s definitely creating waves. This Harvest Moon/Rune Factory combination of a game displays some gorgeous graphics and sounds and makes for a wholly relaxing experience to wile the hours away. Valleys Between has only been recently released for iOS devices and has yet to make its debut on the Google Play Store. With the success it’s had, we’re confident that an Android version will soon be making its way soon as well.
The first thing any user will notice about this game is the graphics. Valleys Between boasts 3D as well as 2D graphics all animated beautifully. It’s like a painting has popped into life on your smartphone. Let’s not forget the amazing sound track to complement the game’s theme and art as well.
Once you’ve acknowledged the gorgeous art, you’ll get into the actualities of the game. Valleys Between is essentially a game that revolves around mother-nature. Players are tasked to grow plants and ponds and harvest the fertile land to maintain a natural balance. To do this they have the option to grow a lot of different flora as well as ponds and lakes.
In Valleys Between, you’re given a hexagonal grid where you can plant your trees and watch them grow. The controls are pretty basic. You can toggle and move around the grid with simple touch and swipe controls. To plant a tree or add a lake you only need to swipe up on the designated tile.
This New Zealand based game provides a complete unwinding experience but it doesn’t come without challenge. Although Valleys Between is a casual game overall it still does present with an actual gaming element. Valleys Between is, hence, categorized as a puzzle game and makes it to the number 2 spot on iTunes. Players can grow plants and place lakes but there’s a catch: they have to maintain nature’s balance.
For example, throughout the landscape of the game there are areas where the land is infertile and corrupted. If you plant on these specific areas or change things around the corrupted land, you’ll spread the infertility to other parts of the land and this can become a roadblock in your progress. You also need to be wary of cleaning up after you’ve dug out a river or a lake otherwise there’s a chance that your land might get corrupted.
Players also need to manage and tactfully plant their trees. In the game you can’t just plant wherever you please or whenever you want. You have to maintain a certain balance. If you grow too many trees you’ll end up throwing this balance out of proportion and to counteract this you’ll need to dig up some water areas or add a pond nearby. Clumping in trees together will also result in a forest to be made while clumping in lakes or water spots together will result in a river formation.
Maintaining the balance of nature and making sure you don’t let the corrupted land spread is what makes Valleys Between a puzzler. A decent amount of strategy is required to make it through the later levels. Despite this, this app still provides a very calming experience and presents a visual treat for your eyes.
