The Korean spin-off of the popular Lineage series has set some serious standards. Before the Lineage series, there was always something lacking in MMOs that were available to play on smartphones. High quality graphics, smooth controls and a giant online multiplayer base required a tough hardware like that in a good PC. But with the help of the Unreal 4 Engine, Lineage 2 Revolution has made an example.
Set a decade back in time from the Lineage 2 game, Revolution offers a broader outlook into the plot and the characters of the popular series. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy this spin-off despite it not carrying a new storyline.
Like its predecessor, Lineage 2: Revolution allows players to start with three basic classes: a warrior, a ranger or a mage – each with their own special abilities and traits. There are also four gender-locked races to choose from: Human, Elf, Dwarf and Dark Elf. Every race mentioned has the same three starter classes but newer classes can be unlocked as you progress into the game. Players, then, dive into a world of fantasy, war and strategy.
Lineage 2: Revolution’s success is hidden mainly in its impeccable graphics and its classic MMORPG gameplay. Despite the fact that the game is played on a smartphone and has a size less than 100 megabytes, it still manages to deliver excellently in terms of design and graphics. There haven’t been many reports of the app crashing either so kudos to developer Netmarble for that! The gameplay is a familiar one and MMO fans will know how to navigate their way around easily. For new MMO players, though, some amount of time will have to be invested to get the hang of the game.
You can embark on quests through the journal and you can take your character wherever you please in the vast online multiplayer arena. You heroes can engage in battle for gold and XP as you move along. The PvP battle aspect of Lineage 2: Revolution is commendable. There’s a lot of eye-candy destruction happening during the battles with sparkling attacks flying left to right. The more battles you win, the higher your level will be and the stronger your character will be. You will also be able to acquire more skills and unlock new sub-classes to play with.
Similarly, you can also upgrade your weapon and make it stronger. This weapon enhancement feature has, however, faced some amount of critique with critics deeming this feature almost clumsy. Apart from the weaponry and offense, the game also offers features for controlling mana or utilizing health potions.
There’s also the useful option of auto-questing so that your characters can embark on a quest without you having to actively maneuver him/her. This is especially useful when you’re busy with other activities in the game such as cooking dinner or when you’re buying goods and potions form the market area.
Not only does Lineage 2: Revolution offer seriously pleasing 3-D graphics, it also has detailed cut scenes and great voice overs; things we hardly ever see in a smartphone game.
The app is completely free to download and play although dedicated players who want to level up faster or grow stronger without spending hours can make the in-app purchases. These premium features will hasten your progress along the way but without them, you can still proceed just fine.
