iHeartRadio description

iHeartRadio is a one of those few music streaming applications on your smartphone that actually promise free content. Free to download and available for both iOS and Android users, iHeartRadio offers unlimited streaming music, tons of free radio stations you can tune into and a lot of music to pay on offline mode. You don’t really need a subscription to enjoy music on this app but a subscriber will have more access to the music content than a regular non-paying user.

The Review

What iHeartRadio does is similar to other big music streaming platforms such as Spotify and Pandora. You can browse for your favorite music, artist and tune into your favorite radio station all in one platform. What began as a website and channel dedicated for music fanatics is now one of the most top rated apps in the music category on both iTunes and the Google Play Store. There’s one big drawback though: it’s not really available for everyone and only has support for a select few countries worldwide. So if you don’t live in the US or in Europe, you might just not be able to download iHeartRadio at all.

iHeartRadio constantly stresses on the fact that it’s free to use and while that can be considered true, a lot of content and features will still be missing if you don’t opt for the paid subscription or the premium membership as the app calls it.

For basic, free users, tuning into your favorite live radio stations is possible as well as listening to podcasts all for free. With the iHeartRadio app, you can discover thousands of live and local AM and FM radio stations near you. In fact, you can tune in to radio stations from cities across the globe as well. The radio feature keeps you updated with the latest music, sports news, talk and comedy. You can also tune into your favorite sports station to keep yourself in the now with scores of live matches from channels like ESPN, Fox Sports and more.

On iHeartRadio you can also listen to some pre-made absolutely free playlists. These pre-made playlist number in the thousands and are categorized systematically according to moods, activity, time and genre. You can discover a lot of music by listening to these free curated playlists that are organized in a way to make you enjoy just about any moment in time.

Podcast listening is also one feature that iHeartRadio basic users can enjoy without spending a dime. You can tune into your favorite podcast talks from Gimlet, How Stuff Works, NPR, Pod Save America and many more. These podcasts also feature some pretty big names like Anna Faris, Ben Shapiro, Bobby Bones, Barbara Corcoran, Colin Cowherd, Joe Rogan and more. The app is designed wonderfully and has a friendly user interface. You can also make use of the handy notification alerts for the app that you set alarms and notifications to alert you of any new podcast or a fresh playlist that’s been added to the app.

Of course since this is a music application, not everything can be enjoyed for free. Premium users have a clear advantage and can experience much more features and content than a regular user. For example, premium users or subscribers can save songs for offline listening, enjoy unlimited skips and create an unlimited number of playlists on iHeartRadio.
