Getting Over It

Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy is a game that is all too familiar for people who stay in touch with the latest YouTube gamers. Getting Over It originally came out on PC but with its overwhelming success, its mobile version hit both the Google Play Store and iTunes. The game has received massive attention in the YouTube world because of its fun, challenging gameplay and it ability to make you curse your heart out.
Getting Over It is a game that has a simple objective and storyline: you’re a man stuck in a black cauldron and your job is to mountaineer all the way to the top with a trusty sledgehammer. You’d never think a sledgehammer could come of use so much as you discover in Getting Over It. With the appropriate timings and swinging, you can climb your way to the top – not that anyone ever has yet.
Getting to the top or even too further into the game of Getting Over It is actually an impossible task and we’re pretty sure no human has ever gone too far. Why? Because there are no checkpoints, no save points. Once you fall (and that’s very likely), you’ll have to start all the way from the start -because obviously, no one’s going to survive a fall from those mountains. That’s the real challenge of the game – making it as far as you can before you fall. This adds the increasing frustration to the game as well because you’ll constantly find yourself cursing at the game every time you’re forced to start over.
This game relies heavily on correct timing but even if you’ve become the swinging sledgehammer master, there will come a point where you’ll find yourself get stuck or when luck will become the deciding factor. Some users have also pointed out that with the mouse controls on the PC game, swinging the sledgehammer was easier and more sensitive while the smartphone games doesn’t offer the same controls. We, however, didn’t find this discrimination ourselves and believe that Getting Over It was a game that was made for smartphones.
Getting Over It presents a challenging and fun concept. The graphics are also pretty spot on for a mobile game with the same 3D animations as in the PC version of the game. It is cleverly executed but one that will leave you pulling your hair out after every time you fail. The game tests your patience, that’s for sure and you’ll need to try, try again to polish your sledgehammer swinging skills. Apart from this main gameplay, there are no other features this app offers. There is zero customization or bonus features to make you excel faster. That’s the beauty of this game perhaps: simple, clean and challenging. It’s definitely an easy to pick up game but one that is hard to master.
However, Getting Over It is not a free game to download and play. It costs around $5 but that’s pretty nominal for an app that replicates a PC game with the same controls and the same vastness of the setting.
Getting Over It is one of the top apps in the Simulation app category, which belongs to Noodlecake Studios Inc.
