Bowmasters description

In a battle of physics, Bowmaster presents as an interesting stress reliever for many players. This cartoony take on a bow master’s attempt to shoot his targets are not only fun but also require an understanding of bow mechanics.

The Review

Players start the game with a level 1 bow master – a ranger with a bow and arrow. The battle is played against a mime controlled by the computer. The objective of the game is pretty straight forward – you aim and shoot. The only two controls you have are adjusting the angle and power of the throw by assessing the distance your enemy is at. Usually an enemy will take a few hits to knock out after which you will proceed to win a free gift – coins, gems or a new character.

Bowmasters incorporates variety in the typical bow and arrow combat. Although you begin with a ranger, you can unlock other characters with coins or by purchasing them. These characters all have their own unique weapons – cards, suitcases, javelins and even a game pad – but the goal is mutual: killing the enemy. Characters can also be upgraded to become stronger and savvier looking for an even more fun experience.

In the beginning, players only have a choice of one mode that is to play against the computer. After 7 or more battles have been successfully won, other modes begin to become available. These modes allow you to compete against friends, other online players, participate in tournaments or even embark on a bird hunt where the task is to hit as many birds as possible.

Bowmasters has a certain appeal to it that no one can deny – the highly saturated cartoony graphics coupled with bubbly sound effects and the variety of unique characters all make the game one of the top ones in the chart.

The game also has an achievement board where players can unlock different achievements to upgrade their characters. These achievements include headshots (hitting the enemy in the head), winning tournaments, hitting every shot in the battle and more. The achievement board brings out the competitive side in players making them want to continue playing for hours.

Although seriously addicting, there is a ring of monotony to the game. For starters, the gameplay remains the same throughout – you aim, shoot and watch as your weapon flies in a projectile motion hitting or missing your opponent. Although the background and landscape change in every level and get more difficult as you progress further, the gist of the game remains the same.

Apart from the repetitive gameplay, there are other reservations players and critics have about the game. Bowmasters is a game that was developed for kids owing to its cartoony graphics but the violence in the game is not inconspicuous. Whenever an enemy is struck with the weapon, not only does he clearly bleed but parts of his skin are torn away, exposing the bone underneath. Although the gore in the game is made to look quite silly, there is no denying of its existence.

The app fails in another crucial aspect as well: advertisements. One of the greatest pet peeves of any player is the countless number of promotions and ads in their favorite game. When you just begin to get into the mood and the tempo of the game, an ad on a shaving cream is shoved on you. Bowmasters has received its share of backlash because of these endless ads. In fact, these ads might coax impatient players into purchasing the ad-free version of the game.

Bowmasters plays a greedy role when it comes to coins and unlocking new characters as well. Although free coins and gems can be earned by winning successful matches or by inviting your friends to join the game, most of the prizes have to be purchased. Even free characters aren’t completely free, strictly speaking. The ‘free’ characters can be utilized after players have successfully subscribed to an Instagram account and liked a photo.

Why Do We Recommend Bowmasters?

  • Colorful graphics and smooth gameplay
  • A variety of characters to unlock
  • Several modes to play – against the CPU, friends or in tournaments etc.

What Can Be Improved?

  • There are way too many ads and promotions that need to be reduced
  • Monotonous, repetitive gameplay that can become boring after a while
  • Unnecessary blood and gore

If you’re looking for a good time-pass, Bowmasters should have a home in your phone but be prepared for the endless ads and promotions.
